"We write to say a huge thank you for your extremely kind donation of £1200.00 we have received from the Heart of England Foundation, raised at the Golf Day you held at Warwickshire Gold and Country Club on 5th June 2015. Can you please pass on our grateful thanks to all who participated in the fundraising event.

Your commitment to helping disadvantaged homeless young people in our community is much appreciated by Doorway and most importantly, by those who benefit from our services. Thanks to donors like you, Doorway has provided support to 450 young people over the past 12 months with a place to live, learn and feel safe.

Your donation will be used to purchase “home starter packs” comprising of items of household essentials: Pots and pans, cutlery and crockery, duvets and linen, cleaning equipment and materials as well as a food bag. This is funded through donations  and I hope that you agree this is a very worthwhile use of your donation.

For many of these young people who are trying to survive on minimal income, independent living is incredibly daunting. By removing concern over  small, bur vital things such as these, greater energy can be focussed on developing “life skills” and moving forward to a positive future. They do not have a furniture van coming behind them when they get the keys to their accommodation and stand in their empty rooms wondering what to do first. They certainly don’t have £150 in their pockets to spend to get themselves set up.

Starter packs would help young people establish a route out of homelessness. Many tenants fail in the initial stages because of lack of financial resources that provide basic household items that turn a house into a home. By providing these essentials, starter packs can help eliminate the ‘revolving door’ experience of many homeless young people.

Again many thanks for your support it is very much appreciated and enables us to continue providing vital services to some of the most vulnerable young people in our local community.
