The Renters’ Rights Bill will see the biggest shake-up to private renting in a generation after it received Royal Assent today.
The Bill passed through Parliament last week and now becomes law.
Housing minister Matthew Pennycook has not yet set out a timeline for when the reforms would take effect however certain elements such as the end of fixed term tenancies come into effect immediately.
Key elements of the Act include an end to so called “no fault evictions” with the abolishment of Section 21, an end to fixed term tenancies and the right for each tenant to request a pet.
Sheldon Bosley Knight’s director of lettings, Rebecca Dean said: “This is a seismic change for the private residential lettings sector and we have been working very hard to ensure we as agents, and our landlords and tenants, have all the information needed to navigate this change.
“We’ll continue to work closely with our landlords to help them be prepared, understand the practical implications of these reforms and give them confidence to plan for the months ahead.
“If any of our landlords or tenants would like advice or more information please do not hesitate to get in touch.”
